- And does it work?
Why school today should be exactly like this!
The decision to choose a Montessori school springs from the wish for a happy, self-determined child — and yet it often carries with it the doubt of whether the child is sufficiently prepared for the “real world”. Underlying this is ultimately the question so often asked: “This all sounds wonderful — but does it actually work?”
The simplest answer is this: we would not have been so successful for 40 years, and would not be recommended by so many parents, if it were not the case. If that’s not enough for you: a somewhat more nuanced answer can be found here.
The answer: it actually works very well
Even today, the modern world demands less memorised factual knowledge and far more independence in thinking and acting, personal responsibility, flexibility and resilience. We are the door-openers to the fascinating world of knowledge, but building up these competencies is the actual foundation of Montessori pedagogy. Above all, this requires one thing from parents: trust in their child and letting go of their own school experiences.
